The Women’s Political Rights Advocacy Group held a session

The Women’s Political Rights Advocacy Group (WPRAG) discussed women problems in 2014 presidential and provincial council elections.
The WPRAG held a meeting on October 29, 2014 at FEFA HQ to discuss women problems in 2014 presidential and provincial council elections

The participants of meeting expressed their views on women problems in 2014 presidential and provincial council election. The added the women problems were as follow in 2014 presidential and provincial council elections:
• Insecurity Challenges
Security directly impact on whole processes. Due to insecurity the level of women participation was low in election. Women could not go to the polling centers to cast their votes due to insecurity.
• Role of Improper Culture in the Society
Existence of improper and male-dominated culture in the society has negatively impacted on women participation in election. The local powerbrokers do negative publicity against women and encourage men to no allow their female members of family to take part in political processes.
• Women Unawareness From Election Process
A principle challenge before women in election is their unawareness from political processes including election. It means women do not understand the value of their participation in political processes.


• Remoteness of Polling Centers and Lack of Female Staff in Polling Centers
Another considerable challenges before women participation in election is remoteness of polling centers and lack of female staff in polling stations. This issue negatively impact on the level of women participation in election.

Proxy Voting
A problems women faced with in 2014 elections were proxy voting. It means men were using the cards of female members of their families and were voting on behave of female members of their families. Due to shortage of female staff in polling stations, men could easily use proxy voting.
The participants of this meeting also discussed the awareness programs for women and said that all civil society organizations and other relevant organizations which are working for women political rights hold repeated and similar programs without considering the priorities of program participants, having systematic coordination before holding the program and well identification of the program. In other part of the meeting, the participants discussed on the focus group which is supposed to be held on Tuesday. Each participant expressed his/her view on the focus group.
At the end of the meeting the participants decided to hold the meetings of group every 15 days.
